"LORD, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress." Isaiah 33:2

At least there were 3 rings

So it wasn't THE GREATEST show on earth... But the Shriners put on what Kevin and I would describe as "a fairly decent show on earth."

Leah's first circus was the Shrine circus at the Garland event center. This girl thought it was pretty cool.

If we get free (or really cheap) tickets to something... anything, really... we are there! :)

I was seriously impressed by this hand-standing elephant. He stood on his front legs for like 60 seconds!!!

Is there anything better than your very first taste of cotton candy?

Leah doesn't think so.

I'd rather be near

Easter is my favorite holiday. I think its because I was once SO far away from God. And I remember how it felt. But now He has changed my whole life! I know God personally and talk to Him daily and hear from Him too... And I am only able because of what happened that very first Easter Sunday morning!

"But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ."(Ephesians 2:13 NIV)

Praise be to God!

Christmas morning 2011

Our crazy little Christmas elf on Christmas morning... HAHAHA!Santa brought her just what she asked for and some stuff she didn't even know she wanted... like new cars and some Lightnin McQueen slippers!

Beans enjoyed her Christmas bone.

Leah has already worn out her dry erase markers in the few short weeks since Christmas.

I just liked this smug look on her face...And this silly face she is making singing "Mary, did you know?" after her bath on Christmas. That is some serious nostril flaring! This year at Christmas I found myself singing that song often. Can you imagine kissing the face of the baby Jesus? Can you imagine being given the responsibility of parenting the only son of God? The notion of that song hit me a little more squarely this year than ever before. One thing I definitely took away from this Christmas season was a deeper understanding of the humanness of Jesus. He was fully divine, equal to God the Father. Yet he was, for a time, as fully human as me. While I don't know how that was accomplished, I feel like I better understand just one of the reasons why.

He was no stranger to living around sin and corruption. He endured temptations just as each of us do. And he made choice after perfect choice that aligned with the will of God the Father. Denying his flesh. Fulfilling his purpose. Building his kingdom. And all the time he was doing it so that he could identify with us! So that we might believe him when he says to us "I know what you are going through...you can do this!" Its so sweet. Its so compassionate. Its so simple.

a little medicine

Today I read this on a friend's blog... can you imagine not complaining about ANYTHING... even the WEATHER?? I am gonna try it and see how long I can go! :)

A grown daughter wondered how her mom, a missionary living in the African bush for 52 years with no electricity or other modern conveniences, had led a life of contentment in circumstances that would give anyone cause to complain. She found the answer in an old diary of her mother's. Her mother, Ella Spees, had written down this "prescription for contentment":

~ Never allow yourself to complain about anything - not even the weather.

~ Never picture yourself in any other circumstances or someplace else.

~ Never compare your lot with another's.

~ Never allow yourself to wish this or that had been otherwise.

~ Never dwell on tomorrow - remember that is God's, not ours.

the only thing that stays the same

Once in a while I capture a moment on camera that brings a sweet remembrance to my heart and mind... When I saw this picture I had taken this morning I immediately remembered a similar one and went in search of it. Here she is today: And here she is a little more than a year ago on 3/30/2010. We visited the arboretum to see all the tulips and go barefoot in the grass. Leah had been walking for about 2 months but this was the first time I remember her really taking off and running. Look at her go! :) Time marches on doesn't it? Time marches on. Leah marches on. And stripes are always in fashion. :)

We went to get our first farm fresh eggs today (that's what Leah is holding in her hand in the top picture) and I'll be sure and post about it ASAP, as well as a link to how you can get your own too!!

Oh, and Aunt Les gets her sheep this weekend!!! Stay tuned!

Christmas past

Merry Christmas to All!

Just a quick look back at a couple of our favorite Christmas times...

Sweet Pea - 2008

Sweet Cheeks - 2009

Sweet Little Lady - 2010

The joy I have at Christmas comes not just from the miraculous and unique birth of a baby born in a stable, though a more blessed story has never been told... but it comes from a more sobering moment in the life of that baby, when, as a grown man, and though He was GOD in flesh, he voluntarily took MY punishment and was put to death on a cross.

His was a sacrificial life and death that were planned from the very beginning.

Jesus was born to die.

He died to pay for my sin.

And then He conquered death once and for all.

I am more grateful than ever this Christmas for all that truly matters.

His love for you and me. And His sovereignty.

"You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You."
Isaiah 26:3

The Bible is True

One of the greatest blessings in my entire life has been to be involved in Bible Study Fellowship. For many, many reasons. I began last year with the study of the gospel of John. This year, for the study of Isaiah, I have had the EXTRA SUPER AWESOME blessing of getting to be a children's leader in BSF. I had no idea how much God wanted to teach ME through serving in a pre-school class! I get to help a class full of 4-year-olds learn to sing hymns and hear God's truth through Bible stories. And I'm telling you, little miracles happen every single week in this children's program. God is at work in a BIG way.

One of the other children's leaders shared a new rhythmic activity with our group. She said it was a favorite of her school-aged kiddos from their BSF class. (Another cool thing about BSF... there are now classes for every single person in the family! Leah is in the new "Under 2" program that just started last spring.) Anyway, we have been doing this little chant in our 4-year-old class, but I had no idea they were teaching the littlest ones! You pat/clap to the rhythm and it goes like this: The Bible is True - - Absolutely True - - Everything the Bible Says Is Absolutely True.

After BSF yesterday we visited with Bibby, Pops and Aunt Les at the office. And Aunt Leslie got this on video...

The Truth is on her lips. And I pray it makes a way into her heart.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

Friends: Real, not sit-com version

A friend is one to whom one may pour out the contents of one's heart, chaff and grain together, knowing that gentle hands will take and sift it, keep what is worth keeping, and with a breath of kindness, blow the rest away.
-George Eliot

I heard this quote in a sermon a while back and it moved me so much as a perfect description of my dearest friendships. Real friends are so rare. If you don't have a friend that fits this description... you are missing out. Ask God to send you one. I'm serious! He will! And you'll wonder why you didn't ask for it sooner. There's my unsolicited advice for the day. :)

Thank you to my real friends. (Especially Brandie who inspired this post.) Why I've been so blessed to have you I don't know... it is certainly not because I deserve you. There aren't enough exc!amation marks in the whole world to express how much I love you. I'm grateful to God for you and I'm truly humbled by your friendship.
