LC quote of the day

"Mommy, did you know that they kill chickens to make chicken strips?"

"Yes. And how do you feel about that?"

"Well... I think it's cool... Because that way I get to eat chicken strips!"

a little sister

Leah is gonna have a little sister!!!
She went with us to our ultrasound appointment a couple of weeks ago.
One way she is like me and NOT like her daddy:  She LOVES doctors, nurses, doctor's offices, hospitals and all things health care related... except getting shots and the sight of her own blood...

In the waiting room she decided to see what her daddy had in his pockets... she fills up all his pockets each morning with kisses and hugs in case he needs them while he is at work. Since he went with us that morning instead of going to work... his pockets were empty.
 Getting ready for the ultrasound.
She was thoroughly entertained for the first half of the appointment.  We heard her baby sister's heart beat, and saw her perfectly forming little body and organs. She is the picture of health and measuring exactly on target.

Leah was rewarded with a dum dum at the front desk.... The greatest part of the whole experience.

When we found out Curley #2 was a little sister, Leah first said "Awwww... but I wanted a brother!" However, you can be certain that if we had said "It's a brother!" she would have insisted she really wanted a sister.  Its just how it is in the Curley house these days. She quickly came to terms with it and has already set aside a few things for her baby sister when she gets here.  Leah is growing out of clothes and shoes every day lately and each time something is too small she suggests we can save it for her baby sister when she is big enough.  :) It makes my heart so excited.  Sisters are wonderful.  Life is more fun with a sister and I am so glad she gets one.

I have had one fear... only one.  What if this little one talks as much as Leah does?  What will I do?  Will I go deaf?  Will I go insane? Will life as we know it ever be the same? I have been assured by many people that the second one doesn't ever talk as much as the first... they don't have equal opportunity.  But then there is my mother's example.... I WAS THE SECOND CHILD!

I can't spend anymore time on this fear though.  I have bows to make and hoards of little girl clothes to sort through! We will meet little sister in 19.5 weeks or less!

LC quote of the day

It's early to post a quote of the whole day... She might come up with a better one but I doubt it's possible. (And if I don't post it right away, I forget it... really poor memory lately... evidenced by so few posts...)

After I vacuumed 2 rooms I had to lay down for a rest. Leah said:

"Mommy, if you get too tired doing all this stuff with a baby in your tummy, you can get Daddy to do it!"

LC quote of the day

After having a little face painting at the arboretum:

"Mommy, can I keep my butterfly on for my nap? I promise it won't distract me because I can't look at my own face."

A very good argument... sure to make her daddy proud.

another little curley

Could it be??
Another one of these is on the way?

Yes, it is!!

There is his or her first photo at 6+ weeks! (Kevin doesn't ever trust pregnancy tests (???) so it was when he saw this that he finally believed it I think.)

As I eagerly leaned waaaay over the table at Scotty P's (her favorite restaurant) to tell Leah the news, she became very concerned and her first questions to me were "The baby is in there right now??? Are you squishing it??"
After assuring her that I would not squish the baby, she had 352 more questions... including, the all important, what color pacifier would the new baby get?  Then she called all her grandparents to tell them she was gonna be a big sister.

She talks to the baby in my tummy every night at bedtime and often sings her original song, "Thank you God for the new baby."  She also asks multiple times a day "How big is the baby right now, Mommy?" And "When will it be as big as (fill-in-the-blank-with-whatever-random-object-she-is-looking-at)?"

She has also picked out names already.  For a girl, Princess Aurora.  For a boy, Prince Phillip. The royal baby is due to arrive the first week in April 2013!

We are praising God for this gift. It is from Him alone that all blessings flow. "I have prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of Him." 1 Samuel 1:27

little firecrackers

This year, Leah got to watch fireworks with cousins, Jaxon and Mady.

One of the biggest hits of the whole day was glow-stick-necklaces

Waiting patiently for the dads to get back with snowcones...

Still... waiting...

YES...STILL...WAITING....

I seriously think we were still waiting even at this point.  The dads spent half of the fireworks show in the snowcone line.

On the 4th, we went to OK for our annual get-together with Kevin's family.  Stopping at Max's for breakfast.

The princess of Independence

Having a poolside chat with cousin Mady.
Dinner at Gilley's with Giggle and Granstan.

LC quote of the day

"Mommy, when I am bigger can I borrow your high heels?  And your wedding dress?  Oh...wait...no... I will have to get a different one because I need a pink wedding dress."

His little lamb

Leah's Sunday school class has been learning Psalm 23 this summer. A verse or two every week.

For a few weeks in the spring and early summer, she was having real trouble with the dark. It came out of the blue. Even with lots of night lights and discussions about having nothing to fear, something was really bothering her about the dark.

And then she learned in her class that the Bible says that there is nothing to fear when Our Shepherd is near. Even in the dark valleys, the shadows, scary stuff... Our God is with us and He comforts us.

And because she has been learning in BSF that everything the Bible says is absolutely true(since infancy)... guess what happened?  She trusted in the truth of God's word and no longer fears the dark! She knows who her shepherd is and what He promised.

.
And while we are on the subject of sheepy-things, here is a pic of a shepherd's crook pretzel stick we found during lunch...

And another one of Leah chillin at the sheep barn this summer...

"I will fear no evil, for You are with me."

LC quote of the day

While making up silly songs and teaching them to her "friends" in her bedroom:

"If you want to make up your own silly, funny song, just go to PBS kids dot org and click on the green button... See ya there!"

LC quote of the day

I walked into the bathroom and found Leah with about 6 feet of toilet paper she was getting ready to use to finish her bathroom business.

I said to her "What are you doing with all that paper?"

And her answer was "Oh yeah, sorry. All that paper will clog up the potty... but... we have a plumber right?"

life goes on

Every 4 years I ponder these thoughts:
What did I do with my time before the Olympics started?  and...
What will I do after they are over?

I enjoy the Winter Olympics quite a bit too, but something about the Summer Olympics triggers my addictive personality like nothing else.  Maybe it was my childhood obsession with MaryLou Retton or my lifelong desire to become a triathlete (yes, I'm serious... not about training for this... just about desiring it) or maybe its simply because its too dang hot this time of year to go outside. There is a point in late July where it seems like its gotten too hot to even get ready and go to a pool...  Whatever the reason, our TV channel NEVER once turned from NBC or one of their affiliates for 17 full days. And just after the closing ceremonies last night we were already having withdrawals so we watched the gold medal ping pong match On Demand.

We watched ALOT of Olympics this year.  I decided if I was choosing a sport now, it would definitely be rowing. If I had a row boat... watch out world! Leah decided wants to do gymnastics and swimming and diving.  (Ok... first you have to jump off the side of the pool without whining though...) And Kevin is depressed because he realized we are too old to become Olympic athletes now... even if we tried really, really hard.

Today we went cold turkey... I let Leah watch Doc McStuffins this morning on Disney... she hasn't watched her favorite show at home in almost 3 weeks! And then we spent most of the day out of the house which helped the sweats and heart palpitations. We're gonna be alright...

As far as photos for this post, I have one randomly uploaded picture of Leah at the pool this summer... one of these days I will get blogger to upload my pictures again...
Until then...

A little traffic

31 min later... The driver of the semi truck next to me on the highway just got out of his seat and went to the back of his cab. He came back with what seems to be a plate of food he is now munching on... The driver in front of me is reading a newspaper. He has finished at least 2 sections already. And he is sipping his coffee as if sitting at his kitchen table. All I have is a hot dog.

Way back when - Easter Sunday Morning 2012

I just couldn't resist posting these Easter pics. When I look back at this blog (or when Leah does one day?) I will wonder why I posted Easter pics in July... But late is better than never. I probably won't really wonder... It's kind of a theme I have going.
Leah's basket

Her first peep! I wouldn't let her touch it so she wouldn't get her dress sticky.

After church it's off to see family

Reading her new Veggietales Easter book

CANDY!!!!

Rained out of our normal egg hunts, so hunting proceeded in the house

Sweet cousins Jaxon and Mady

This girl loves sugar...

And her family...

Then we tried (unsuccessfully) for a short nap before our next event...

More indoor egg hunting with the Cooper great grandkids... Grandpa enjoys his greats as much or more than he enjoyed his grands!

Found one!!

These guys crack me up: Ryan, Cooper, Bronwyn, Jayden, Leah

Guess which no-nap kid was giving everyone the hardest time taking pics.

Ok so everyone took a turn acting silly...

Egg-heads!

This one below is my favorites... Almost everyone looks happy. :)

Now I can post more summer time stuff without angst!
