We met the teacher!

Leah's first ever meet the teacher night! Leah starts Pre-K two days a week this year and tonight we headed up to the school to check out her classroom and meet her teacher....

Her first school teacher... Mrs. Adams!

Her desk...

Her name on the wall (one of about half a dozen places you could find her name on the wall in the room... We had a scavenger hunt to find all of them)

Her daddy predictably going over the classroom rules with her... (He was a stickler for rules during his school days...)

Sitting on her favorite number... 8.

Her cubby...

She methodically asked questions about every learning poster on the wall. "What's this?" Over and over. She asked so many questions... We may have covered the entire pre-school curriculum this evening!!!

Get ready for some questions this year, Mrs. Adams! If she is anything like Ann the swim teacher, she will set limits early "Leah, stop asking questions and swim!"

I am more than a little excited about school starting next week. I have felt like Leah has gotten smarter than me over the last few months. She needs to pick another brain for a while. :)

Curley girlies lately

Some things we have been doing lately...

Bumbo sitting...

Swimming in the backyard...

We went to dinner at Babe's with our good friends from Lubbock, and Leah wanted her picture made everywhere...

Noah-3, Anna-5, Leah-4

Baby brother Will (with a small diaper issue...hahaha) and Baby sister Ava....

Making funny faces...

We had dinner at Bibby and Pops' house one night, and while Bibby fed Ava...

Leah fed giant-rubber-ducky...

Enjoying a bit of popcorn at the movies... We like to make our own popcorn bag before the movies.

Playing on the floor...

Rub-a-dub-dubbing...

Chillin.... This may be my favorite picture ever. I kept moving her and she kept doing her best to get back in this position. She likes to kick back in the tub.

Rubbing a fantastic bald spot on her head. It's slick as can be!

Leah and Aunt Leslie made this cup for me. After they painted it we "fired" it in the oven.

AAA....CHOO!

I know I shouldn't encourage this behavior by taking pictures of it... But her jumps were really long! Quite impressive!

Leah made me this "shake" for lunch one day...

We have spent a good amount of time at the pool this summer... Several days with cousins Jaxon and Mady. We thought this candid moment was precious... Leah and Jax decided to snack at their own table.

Lots of water fun with cousins...

Leah, Ava and Stephanie... (Leah's favorite stuffed animal was mine when I was a toddler. Her ears are missing and her whiskers are gnarly, but she has been well loved for 2 generations now)

Look at her grow - Ava's 4 month check up

Ready for all the action to begin!

Showing off the new rolling skills... That's an awfully small table to show off on!

Just-a-waitin...

Checkin her stats...
Height: 24 1/4 inches (50th percentile)
Head: 16 1/2 inches (75th percentile)

Weight: 15 lbs 2.5 oz (75th percentile)

What's that you say? 3 shots?

It was tough. But we both made it through.

She is doing all the 4-month-old stuff... Playing constantly, interested in everything, putting everything in her mouth, laughing at us, studying us, reaching for and grasping things.

Ava is super strong. She was holding her head up from day one, and also had a death grip. Now she bears weight on her legs like a kid who is pulling up. Lots of muscles! :)

A little turnover

Ava has spent most of her life, up to this point, lying swaddled in her bed asleep or being hauled around from one activity to another, often hitched up in my sling like a baby kangaroo. When she does have "free time" it's mainly spent lying in her back with 1 or more faces looming over her smiling and making silly noises while she smiles and coos.

But as of Wednesday July 31, she has a new favorite activity... Rolling over! She has been working on it a couple of weeks but couldn't get over that lump of bones that was always right at her side every time she wanted to flip.

I had a feeling it would be that day. Every time I looked away she had made it just a little further and she was getting more and more fired up. I spent a lot of time staring at her and taking video and saying "Watch, Leah! Watch Kevin! She's about to do it!"

And we watched... And we watched......... And we watched some more............... And then... We turned our heads... And look what happened when we did:

That was the aftermath of the first roll. She desperately wanted to go back... But she also kept grinning like she was so pleased with herself!

She did it one time that evening, one time the next day, and by Friday she was flipping all around like a fish out of water.

We are so proud of our little turnover.
