A couple of little burritos

Both of my girls have been swaddle babies. They both got very still and calm when tightly wrapped. Combine that with the pacifier and Leah was the world's greatest sleeper. The combo was like a drug! :)

Ava doesn't take a pacifier... Boo! But she does sleep very well when swaddled... that is... if it's done "just so" and she can't get out of it.

Yesterday when I wrapped Ava up in her swaddle blankets (Yes, two! One can't contain that strong girl!) to go down for a nap, Leah asked me if I could swaddle her up too...

She laid peacefully like this for 30 minutes and watched tv before saying "This is hot! How come babies don't get hot in their blankets and big girls do?"

Would someone please swaddle me? What a nap that would be!

A little family picnic

Our town has summer concerts once a week and it just happens to be across the street from our house. On memorial day evening we went to the patriotic concert and had a picnic.

When Ava got here, I seriously could not wait to dress these girls alike! And Leah loves it. She loves to match her "most precious baby sister!" yay!

Our life group leaders, Jim and Trish, were there too... They are seriously neat people we are so blessed to know.

How Leah eats a ham sandwich...

Ava enjoys the music best with her tongue out...

Or maybe snuggled up with mommy.

Leah has the greatest daddy in the world... Because, you see, he wouldn't stand in the world's longest line to get just anyone's face painted... But there is nothing he won't do for his girls.

We enjoyed the tribute to the armed forces and then had to get home. Fortunately we could see some of the fireworks from our backyard!

A little resemblance...

People keep asking where Ava's dark hair came from... The same way they have always asked where Leah's blonde comes from...

I think that "her mother" is the answer to both questions.

I was born bald and stayed that way a long time, but then became a blonde. A few years later... turned brunette. Ava and Leah both started out with lots of dark hair... Leah's mostly fell out and came back blonde... We will have to see about little sister.

There are many other attributes little Abby and little Leah share. My family can tell you more about that. :)

Little Abby...

Leah...

Little Abby... (obvious)

Leah...

Little Abby...

Leah...

Her chin and her tiny hiney don't come from me... But I think a few things do...

Thanks to my sister for the old photos.

A little update

Lately I haven't been taking enough pictures or posting enough news... So here are a few phone pics to keep me from feeling too far behind in this blogging venture of mine...

Ava is almost 6 weeks old and she does this pretty well...

She has been sleeping 5 hour stretches at night and even a couple of 6 hour stretches! Unfortunately, she does have a pretty fussy time every evening but the good sleeping makes up for anything. :)

Leah dresses up every.single.day. And often it begins first thing in the morning... The other thing she always wants to do first thing is hold her sister and love on her while she watches "a kid show" on tv... Usually "Arthur."

A precious gift from a precious BSF friend...

A fab hair-do, identical to her sister's at this age...

Last week I took both girls to the park for a picnic lunch... It was our first outing by ourselves and it was easier than I anticipated! :)

For the littlest Curley, I have a ring sling. Sometimes she likes it sometimes she doesn't... That day, she enjoyed the picnic at the park like this...

More morning snuggles in my bed.

Leah's first chopsticks! The last time we went to Pei Wei Leah was about 18 months old. She threw up teriyaki chicken on the table. Still not a fan of the food but liked playing with her food this way...

Ava's first bottle with Daddy. Melt my heart...

So much posing for pics makes a girl tired!

Look how big she is getting!!

Leah has been singing Ava a sweet song almost constantly these days. The tune varies but the lyrics are always the same: I love you and you love me.

She told us the other day "The song is called 'A Sister Who Loves.'"

She sure does.

Look at her grow - Ava's 2 week check-up

Today Ava is 1 month old! And she is growing faster than a weed! Here are her 2 week stats:

Height: 20.5 inches

Weight: 8lbs 1oz

Head: 14 inches

In each category she is in the 75th percentile of babies her age. She is a much faster grower than her big sister ever was. (Though the heads are exactly the same!!)

Although she was eating and gaining weight quite nicely, Ava had a slightly short frenulum... And was causing more trauma than this mama cared to have... So we had it snipped. At that time (3 weeks of age) she was already 21 inches and 8lbs 8oz.

Happy 1 month birthday Ava! It has been a wonderful month having you in our family... To quote your big sister "I love you so much I just want to cry!"
